Defining Healthspan
Healthspan is the concept of maintaining optimal physical and mental well-being throughout one’s life. This shift from simply extending lifespan to maintaining optimal healthspan has been dubbed a global movement. The term was popularized by a data analytics firm called Euromonitor International, which noted that consumers are making behavioral changes to live healthier lives for longer.
- Euromonitor International defined Healthspan Plans as a trend where consumers are prioritizing proactive health measures, aiming to live healthier lives for longer.
- The firm noted that global sales of vitamins, minerals, and supplements are expected to reach $139.9 billion by the end of 2025.
The Rise of Longevity Beauty
In the context of healthspan, longevity beauty is becoming increasingly popular, with events such as InCosmetics Global and anti-aging medicine conferences IMCAS and AMWC featuring longevity beauty as a main focus. A new report from IRIS Ventures highlighted the rise of longevity-driven nutrition, spotlighting ingredients such as vitamin D, magnesium, curcumin, ashwagandha, and NMN as key players.
- For younger consumers, “health is the new wealth.”
- For older demographics, “longevity is about preserving vitality, independence, and mental sharpness.”
Interest in NAD/NAD+
The IRIS Ventures report also highlighted a surging interest in NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) and NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide), driven by research into cellular energy production and aging. These compounds play a crucial role in DNA repair, mitochondrial function, and cognitive health, making them a cornerstone of longevity-focused supplementation.
“Consumers are now prioritizing proactive health measures, aiming to ‘age well’ through personalized supplements, fitness routines, and biohacking,” said Karolina Grigorijevaite, team lead for innovation at Euromonitor International.
Health is the New Wealth
For younger consumers, health is no longer just a means to extend lifespan but a way to achieve success in financial terms through physical resilience and cognitive vitality. “The longevity mindset is shifting from short-term fitness goals to long-term optimization,” the report noted, reporting that Gen Z and Millennials are embracing metabolic health, gut support, and precision supplementation as part of their daily routines.
| Life Stage | Key Focus |
| Younger Consumers | Health is the new wealth |
| Older Demographics | Preserving vitality, independence, and mental sharpness |
Epigenomics Testing and Beauty
A new report from The Future Laboratory and The Together Group highlighted the growing interest in epigenomics testing and its potential to revolutionize the beauty industry. “Together, we aim to lead the charge in integrating epigenetic science into the beauty industry, creating innovative products that truly reflect the future of beauty and longevity,” said Matthew Dawson, CEO at Tru Diagnostic.
Longevity and Urolithin A
L’Oréal has been investing in Swiss biotech firm Timeline, which has created Mitopure-branded urolithin A—a postbiotic targeting mitochondrial health and longevity. Timeline explained that urolithin A triggers a crucial recycling process within cells called mitophagy, which targets age-related cellular decline.
| Compound | Description |
| NAD+ | A cornerstone of longevity-focused supplementation, playing a crucial role in DNA repair, mitochondrial function, and cognitive health. |
| NMN | A precursor to NAD+, also playing a crucial role in DNA repair, mitochondrial function, and cognitive health. |
New Ingestible Innovation in Beauty-Longevity
Several brands are innovating in the longevity-beauty space, including ARTIS London and Niance. ARTIS London’s Regenerative Complex combines NAD+ with sirtuin promoters quercetin and resveratrol.
“Sirtuins are the next big thing in longevity medicine,” said Dr. Paul Banwell, founder of ARTIS London.
Niance is also taking an inside-out approach, targeting aging at its root at the cellular level with its Epigen12 Cell Renewal supplement.
“While traditional skin care only addresses the surface, we are now targeting aging at its root at the cellular level,” said Marnix Ettena, CEO at Niance.
Sector-Agnostic Collaboration
Looking ahead, both Di Gesu and Hawkins agree that sector-agnostic collaboration will be key to the success of longevity-focused innovation. “There is opportunity for longevity-focused beauty supplements and topical skincare products to build consumer trust by teaming with third-party companies and industries focused on longevity,” said Rosalia di Gesu, associate director for beauty and personal care at Mintel.
“There is opportunity for longevity-focused beauty supplements and topical skincare products to build consumer trust by teaming with third-party companies and industries focused on longevity,” said Alex Hawkins, director of strategic foresight at The Future Laboratory.
